Synagogue 3

Synagogue 3

View looking east at the "first-century" synagogue that was discovered at Magdala.  The entrance was from the west, in the foreground of the picture.

Note the low benches around the synagogue and in the center the person kneeling to read the Torah that was placed upon a stone box.

The unique stone box in the center of the image is thought by some to be a "table" on top of which the Torah scroll was placed for reading.  (The box in the image is a replica—click here for a view of the original)
