View looking west at the western wall of the synagogue. Note the two doors—one in the center and the other on the right (north) side of the wall. A three–tiered bench is visible on the right (north) side of the hall. The one on the right may have led to a room where biblical scrolls were kept.
The synagogue was first built during the sixth century AD and was evidently destroyed in the earthquake of AD 749. The scattered remains are from the synagogue and subsequent usage.
