The modern Israeli city of Jokneam has grown up around the tel.

Jokneam was a Canaanite town that was conquered by Israel (Josh 12:22).  It was on the order of Zebulun that extended to the ravine near it (Josh 19:11) and it became a Levitical city (Josh 21:34.

The site is an elevated mound, or tel, spanning around 40 ha. (10 acres) and rising steeply to a height of 60 meters (200 ft). With a few brief interruptions, Yokneam was occupied for 4,000 years, from the Middle Bronze Age to the Ottoman Empire.
