Peristyle Courtyard 2

Peristyle Courtyard 2

View looking southwest across the Peristyle Courtyard of the upper portion of the Promontory Palace—also called by some the "Palace of the Procurators."

The Peristyle Courtyard is the area with green shrubs on the left side of the image that was surrounded by colonnades—note the restored columns.  The area in the foreground—low walls and a mosaic—is where there were administrative offices and an "audience hall."  It may have been in the latter where the prisoner Paul appeared before the procreators Felix and Festus and King Herod Agrippa II ca. A.D. 58 (Acts 23–26).
