Platform 2022

View looking east at the platform on which the Temple of Augustus and Roma stood.

In the foreground, the area now covered by grass was actually the water(!) of the inner harbor of Caesarea Maritima in Herod’s day.  In the center is the reconstructed staircase that led up from the Harbor to the Temple Platform.

On the right (south), behind the four arches, is where the modern theater and museum have been constructed—in reconstructed ancient storerooms.

On the left (north) the arches are from storerooms from the Byzantine Period.
