Lower Terrace 1

Lower Terrace 1

View looking south at the partially reconstructed Lower Terrace (of three) of the Northern Palace.  This was a very private section of the Northern Palace and the most difficult to reach—you needed to descent almost 90 ft. [30 m.] from the Upper Terrace to get here (note the two figures on the right descending the modern staircase that in this section is built over the ancient staircase).

The back, southern wall was built against the cliff face.  Pilasters, plaster and frescos can be seen there as well as the carved cliff face.  The rounded plastered feature in the upper portion of the image is the foundation of the circular Middle Tier.
