Underground Passage

Underground Passage

View looking down the sixteen steps of the flight of stairs that lead down into the passageway that is under the al-Aqsa Mosque.  It is a long underground sloping passage that leads from the Double Gate (outside the southern wall of the Temple Mount Platform) to the main platform of the Haram.  This sloping passageway was used by those visiting the Herodian  (Second/New Testament) Temple that once stood where the Dome of the Rock is now located.
