Golden Vine

View looking west at the upper portion of the eastern façade of the Herodian Temple.  Note the horizontal band that is the representation of the “golden vine” upon which donated gifts were hung.

On the upper edge of the roof note the pointed golden “spikes” that kept pigeons and other birds from landing there.

There are attached columns on both sides of the doors—“Jachin and Boaz” (1 Kings 7:21).  The capitals of the attached columns are “composite”—a combination of the Corinthian and Ionic styles.
