Eastern Wall

Eastern Wall

View of the upper portion of the eastern wall of the Tomb of Annas, the High Priest (AD 5–16).

At the very top of the image note a small portion of the finely carved rosette pattern!!  AND, in the upper left portion of the ceiling the outline of a large carved acanthus leaf (there was one in each of the corners of the ceiling within this tomb.

On this wall is a "chimney" that leads to the outside.  It is not certain if this is part of the original tomb design, or a later addition when monks were living in the tomb.
