View of the southern gate of Kh. Qeiyafa looking south.

According to the excavator that gate dates to the time of King David (ca. 1010–970 BCE).  It has four chambers—two on each side.  Note the passageway leading out of the city.  On the right side of the exit note the line of stones.  They cover a drain that leads out of the city.

The green Elah Valley is visible running from left to right across the center of the image.  The tree covered hills are those of those of the Shephelah south of Qeiyafa, with biblical Socoh on the left side of the image.

The southern gate is located in "Area C."
