Excavation Area

View looking north at the tumbled remains of the excavated area on the west side of the summit of Samaria/Sebaste.

In the upper left (north) portion of the image is part of the foundation of the Augustus Temple.  Most of the image is taken up with the remains from a variety of periods—stretching back to the days of Omri and Ahab (885–853 BC).

Among many other artifacts, 63 ostraca (broken pieces of pottery with writing on them) were discovered here at Samaria.  Also numerous ivory fragments were found in the vicinity.
