Fortress/Temple Interior

View looking west at the interior of the "Fortress Temple."  The temple dates to the Middle and Later Bronze Ages (ca. 1650–1200 BC).  On the left (southeast) side of the image 4 column bases are visible.  The temple is rectangular in shape and the main room is beyond (to the right) of the 4 column bases.

In the background, on the left (south) is the northern slope of Mt. Gerizim and on the right (north) the rising hill is the lower slope of Mt. Ebal.  The valley between (in the distance) the two slopes is the beginning of the Shechem Valley that leads down to Samaria and the Plain of Samaria.
