Citadel 2

Citadel 2

View of the Iron Age Citadel looking east. The citadel is not very large, — measuring 165 x 180 ft. [50 x 55 m.].  Its remains consist of 12 strata — seven of which belong to the Israelite period.

This small fortress — administrative outpost — was divided into four quadrants. Storage facilities were in the northeast, a governor’s residence in the southeast, manufacturing facilities in the southwest, and a Temple in the northwest quadrant.
