South Church Baptistry

An image of the baptistery.  This baptistery is carved out of a single block of limestone.  It has a staircase leading down from the far, east, side that is visible.  There is also one on this, the west, side.

To the left is a small basin carved out of a single block—broken.  It is not certain what it was used for—possibly infant baptism or possibly to hold additional water for pouring over the initiate.

For similarly shaped baptisteries see here, and here, and here.
