Rameses II

Rameses II

View of the oldest of all the “inscriptions” of Nahr el–Kalb—that of Rameses II (1292–1225 B.C.) sacrificing a prisoner to the god Harmakhis.

Note the rectangular frame in comparison to the rounded–top frame of its Assyrian (XIII) neighbor.

Originally this inscription was covered with hieroglyphic writing that unfortunately has been weathered away.
