Amphitheater

View of the remains of the amphitheater at Paestum—looking at the west entrance into the arena.  Note the high wall to protect the spectators and the remains of some seats.  On the right, notice the blocked door.  Since there were no substructures in this amphitheater, animals entered the arena via such a door.
