Nemrut Dagi

Nemrut Dagi

View looking north at the mountain/tumulus of Nimrut Dagi. The mountain is [2,150 m.] high and is crowned by the worship center and burial tumulus of the Commagene king Antiochus I Epiphanes.  “Epiphanes” means god manifest(!) and he wanted to be buried ‘close to the celestial throne’!

The white peak of the mountain is the tumulus and on the left (west) and right (east) sides of it are terraces that served as worship centers—there was also one on the far (north) side of the mountain.
