Excavated Area

View looking east at one the major areas of Klaus Schmidt's excavations at Göbekli Tepe.  In this area he excavated four major enclosures of concentric circles that served as worship centers—out of an estimated 20 circles.

Enclosure "C" is inside of the walkway and pillars sticking up from enclosures "A" and "B" are visible on this side of the walkway (from right to left).
