Pair of Lions Column Base 2

View of the rear haunches of a beautifully carved basalt column base brought to light during the excavations of Robert Braidwood at Tell Tayinat.  A large cedar column would have been placed on top of this base.

Note the details of the mane, ear, legs, and the tails of these creatures.
