Satyr and Dionysus

Satyr and Dionysus

These two statues were found in the Sculptor's Workshop at Aphrodisias.  They look very similar (although they are not exactly the same) but they depict a similar theme: A Satyr with baby Dionysus—the god of merriment and wine.  Evidently you could purchase such a statue just the right size for your garden or your house!

They date to the late second or early third century AD.
