Theater Inscription

View looking west at a large Greek inscription that is on the exterior of the east wall of the theater.

The theater may have needed some rebuilding after the earthquakes of 140–143 A.D.  This very well–preserved Greek inscription describes the rebuilding of the proskene by a man named Quintus Velio Titionus in A.D. 147, and that it was decorated by his daughter, Vilia Procula with statutes, decorations and marble coverings starting from the base "in honor of the gods of Augustus and in honor of the gods of the city of Patara and in honor of Emperor Antonius Pius in the year A.D. 147."
