Arsenal 2

View on the north edge of the acropolis looking north.  The northern wall of the acropolis is on the top of the image.

The Arsenal was used to store weapons and foodstuffs.  There are five long rectangular structures (warehouses).  The foundations of an excavated arsenal are located on the left side of the image.  The wall of an unexcavated arsenal on the right side.

They were constructed in the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C.  Nine–hundred rounds of aspherical shot (sphonduloi) in 13 different sizes were found in them.  These shot were hurled at enemies by large machines (palintonon). They weighed from 6 lbs. (2.8.kg) to 166 lbs. (75.2 kg.)!
