God Fearer Inscription

God Fearer Inscription

An image of a Greek "god fearer" inscription on the floor of the atrium of the synagogue at Sardis.  The Greek theosebeis (Θεοσεβησ) appears at the end of the second and beginning of the third line.

This is one of two such inscriptions. Compare the same categories found in the book of Acts, although not quite the same terminology (Acts 13:16, 26, 43; 17:4, 17).

Mark Fairchild translates the inscription as: "Aurelius Eulogios, a God Fearer, fulfills his vow" (p. 182).
