Urn 2

Urn 2

View of the second of the two lustration urns that are located at the western end of the nave of the Hagia Sophia and the “sweating pillar.”

Note the square column in the distance with the round brass sheathing.  There is a hole in the center of the sheathing, and by inserting a finger one can touch the column.  It is believed by some that this “sweating column” has healing properties—healing the blind, the barren, etc.
