Senate House

Senate House

View of the interior of a well-preserved Senate House—usually called a Bouleteurion but also called a Gerontikon (Council of Elders) at Nysa.  The structure is almost square, with a semi-circular interior seating area.  It had a capacity of about 700 people.  Note the three main entrances on the south and the stairs that divide the seating area into four sections.

This version of the Bouleuterion was constructed in the second century AD.  In the front was a two-story scaenae frons.
