View looking at a portion of the semicircular portico that surrounds the Temple of Augustus on three sides. The portico is on the left side of the image, and the rear (eastern) portion of the podium of the Temple of Augustus is on the right side of the photo. The people in the picture are walking in between the portico and the podium. Note that the podium still stands to a height of 8 ft. [2.5 m.]!
In addition note the two steps that lead up to the two–storied portico. The rectangular impressions in curved vertical wall on the left are sockets into which wooden beams were placed to support the second story of the portico.
