Aqueduct Overview

Aqueduct Overview

View from the top of the acropolis looking down (north) on to the well preserved aqueduct that brought water to the citadel.

The water flowed from the upper right (north) portion of the image where a pressure tower is visible, down into the valley (in a siphon) where three portions of the aqueduct are visible.  From there the water ascended (still in the siphon) to the large pressure tower on the left side of the image and crossed, from left to right, on the now destroyed bridge that was supported by the massive columns in the lower portion of the image.  Some of the water flowed to the nymphaeum on the top of the citadel.
