View of the hot room (caldarium) of the Roman Bath at Ad Quintum ("At Five [miles]")—a place where riders would change their horses (mutatio). 

On the left and center of the image note how the floor of the hot room was raise so as to allow hot air to circulate under it—in order to heat the floor and the room above it.
