View of a portion of the collecting Heading Tank of the Aqueduct of Gier.  This was the beginning of an inverted siphon that crossed the Yzeron Valley and brought water to the city of Lugdunum.

This aqueduct was constructed in the first century A.D. and supplied water to the ancient city of Lugdunum (modern Lyon).  It supplied water from a spring that was located 26 mi. southwest of Lyon.  It actually is 53 mi. long.
