Distance Marker

Distance Marker

View looking north along the west edge of the track at a portion of the track at a portion of the stone channel that carried fresh water around the edge of the track.  The water flowed in the carved channel away from the viewer.  Note just above the center of the image the square “settling basin” through which the water flowed.  Here dust and dirt would have settled out of the flowing water.

Note especially, just right of center the upright carved stone.  This was one of the markers that were set every 100 “feet” to mark distances on the track.
