Column Lifter

Column Lifter

View of a modern “collar” that is used to lift column portions into place.  The “collar” is placed over the column section to be lifted, the ten screws are then tightened, cables are attached to the three loops on the top of the “collar,” and then a crane attaches a hook to the three cables and hoists the column section into place.

Two of the five standing columns of the Temple of Zeus were reerected using this “collar.”
