Tomb of Agamemnon

Tomb of Agamemnon

View looking west into the entrance way (dromos) of the so–called Tomb of Agamemnon/Treasury of Atreus.  The passage way (dromos) is 115 ft. [35 m.] long and 20 ft. [6 m.] wide.  This unroofed passage way was paved and lined with massive hewn stone blocks.  Note the rounded hill that covers the top of his “beehive–shaped” tomb.

The tomb dates to about 1350 B.C. and is probably not the Treasury of Atreus nor the Tomb of Agamemnon (both legendary kings of Mycenae).  But in all probability it was a Royal Tomb—although it had been looted in antiquity.
