Eastern Entrance

View looking west at the eastern entrance to the Erechtheion. Note the six Ionic columns that frame the entrance. Note the volutes on the Ionic capitals and the typical Ionic column bases.

The function of the interior room is disputed: some say it was the tomb of the legendary king Erechtheus, while others suggest that the old olive wood image of Athena stood inside.
