Choregic Monuments

Choregic Monuments

View looking north at two Corinthian columns.  These columns were set up just to the north of the Choregic Monument of Thrasyllos (no longer in existence).  Each of these columns evidently supported “tripods” which celebrated victories at one of the festivals held at the Theater of Dionysus from which this picture was taken.

The south retaining wall of the acropolis is visible behind the columns.

For an outstanding “Choregic Monument” compare the Monument of Lysikrates that is located northeast of these – along a processional way that led to the Theater of Dionysus.
