Western Entrance

Western Entrance

View looking west at the western entrance to the Roman Forum of Athens.  The four columns and entablature are typical of the Doric order.  An inscription indicates that the entrance and the forum itself was the gift of Caesar Augustus “son of a god.”  The entrance dates to about 11–9 B.C.

This picture was taken from within the Roman Forum.  The older Greek Agora and the Stoa of Attalus is about 140 yrds. [150 m.] beyond (west) of this spot.
