Forum East

Forum East

View looking east across the forum towards the Tower of the Winds (in the center of the image).  In the apostle Paul’s day this forum was the commercial center of Athens, surpassing the older Greek agora located to the west of this area.  Indeed Paul probably worked and ministered in this area.

The Roman Forum measures about 365 x 320 ft. [110 x 100 m.].  On the right (south) side of the image the double row of columns outlines the southern portico of the forum.  The acropolis (not visible) is off the right (south) side of the image.

On the left side of the image the domes of an old Turkish Mosque, the Fethie Cami, are visible and just in front of the Tower of the Winds the eastern entrance to the forum is visible.
