Battle Scenes

Battle Scenes

View of the "body" of the huge burial jar (pithos) that was found on Mykonos in 1961.  It dates to around 670 B.C.

Three bands of battle scenes are visible.  These are divided into individual panels that feature at least two figures each.  In some of them there appears to be a warrior that is killing a smaller figure (a child?) and a female (mother?).  The potter/artist was certainly aware of the brutality of war.

This is the earliest graphic depiction of the battle of Troy!!
