Omphalos

Omphalos

A block of marble carved with sculpted “lattice–work.”  This one is from the Hellenistic Period—a copy of the one that was originally in the crypt of the Temple of Apollo.  This was found in the southern wall of the Temple of Apollo.

The ancients thought of Delphi as the center (belly button, omphalos) of the world for here the two eagles released by Zeus met.
