View looking east along the northern foundations of the Temple of Apollo.  The temple was built out of local limestone.  The “pock marks” in the stones are actually places where metal clamps had been placed to hold the blocks together.  They were robbed out in the middle ages, and this led to the destruction of the temple.  

Most of what is visible in this image is a refurbishing by modern archaeologists.
