The Plain/Pass 1

The Plain/Pass 1

View looking north from the mountains above Thermopylae looking down at the area of the pass.  The “pass” today is about 3 mi. [5 km.] wide, due to silting, but in ancient times it probably was only about 20 yards [20 m.] wide!

In the sea, the Greek fleet was holding back the Persian—while the land battle was occurring.
