On the right side of the image the beautiful white-pink blossoms of the almond tree are clearly visible.

The almond tree is the first to flower as winter is beginning to end (this picture was taken in late January—note also the green vegetation in the background). 

The beautiful blossoms of the almond tree are a harbinger of spring and the harvest to come.  The blossoming rod is a symbol of God watching over His word, with the assurance that it will be fulfilled—just as the blossoming almond indicates that spring is surely coming (Jeremiah 2:11–12).
