Judea Captive Coin

View of a Roman Sestertius minted during the reign of Vespasian (A.D. 69-79) to celebrate the Roman defeat of the Judeans.

Notice the palm tree (a prominent symbol of Judea) and to the left a seated woman with her head in her hands—representing Judea weeping.  The interpretation of the partially nude, bearded, male figure on the right side of the palm is disputed.  Possibly he represents a male captive.  Behind his calf are trophies of war.  The inscription, in Latin, reads Judaea capta.
