Threshing Floor

View of a threshing floor in the Hill Country of Ephraim.  Threshing Floors were large open areas, oftentimes built on bedrock, located slightly below the highpoints on hillsides.  Here grains were initially processed.

Stacks of grain and chaff, bags of grain, a donkey, a number of people, and someone “winnowing the grain” in the center of the image, are visible.  This picture was taken in the late afternoon, note the shadows.  The late afternoon is when the sea breezes typically reach the hill country and was used for tossing the grain into the air to separate the grain from the chaff.
