View looking south from the northwest corner of the raised platform on which the Dome of the Rock stands. The domed structure on the right (west) side of the image is called the "Qubbat el-Arwah" - the "Dome of the Spirits." In the distance, left of the Dome of the Rock, is the Dome of the Chain.

Under the Dome of the Spirits, bedrock is visible. According to Asher Kaufman, this is the spot where the Holy of Holies of both the Herodian and the Solomonic Temples stood - although this researcher is more inclined to follow the proposals of Leen Ritmeyer.
