Gibeon

Gibeon

View from Nebi Samwil looking north–northeast at the site of el–Jib (biblical Gibeon).  Note the limestone terracing that is visible on the surface making stratigraphic excavation difficult.  On the left (west) side of the image the village of el–Jib is visible (this photograph was taken in 2008 after significant development of the village took place). Compare an early image from the 1970's.

On the horizon are the outskirts of the modern city of Ramallah compare the development there.  Note the low limestone hills with terracing.  This is one of the few “plateau” areas in the hill country north of Jerusalem.
