View of a portion of the above-ground portion of the Aqueduct of Gier.  This aqueduct was constructed in the first century A.D. and supplied water to the ancient city of Lugdunum (modern Lyon).  It supplied water from a spring that was located 26 mi. southwest of Lyon.  It actually is 53 mi. long.
