View looking northeast at the eastern portion of the excavations.  This area is difficult to sort out visually!  The stub of a column in the center of the image is from the Byzantine Church that stood in this area.

This area was used as an Asclepion during the late Roman Period (second through third centuries A.D.).  Asclepius was the Greco–Roman god of healing.  For an image of Asclepius Click Here and to view the great Asclepion at Pergamum in Asia Click Here (also use the search window).
