View looking east along the axis of the basilica–style North Church.

In the foreground is the atrium of the church with the opening to the atrium cistern enclosed by the metal fencing on the left (north) side of the image.  The cistern area was open to the sky, but three of the sides were covered porticos (note the south portico on the right [south] side of the image.

Beyond the atrium the nave and the two aisles of the church are visible as is the main chancel and apse at the far end of the structure.  The church was constructed of limestone that was faced with marble.  Its floor was of stone, not mosaics.  The taller re–erected columns supported the wooden roof of the structure and it is probable that a clerestory was over the central nave.

This church is dated to the fourth century A.D.
