Threshing Sledge and Sickle

View of the bottom side of a threshing sledge.  Now leaning up against a wall, when use, the sledge was placed in a horizontal position and pulled by an animal over the stalks of grain.  Note the curve on the front end of the sledge (top as it leans against the wall) that aids its movement over the stalks.

The bottom of the sledge was impregnated with numerous stones that assisted in threshing the grain.

To the right of the sledge a hand sickle is visible.  These were used to cut the grain when in the field, although in some instances they were used to actually pull the grain out of the soil – roots and all.  The sickle is modern. 

These implements are on display in the reconstructed village of Katzrin.
