View looking southeast at the convent of Ágios Stéfanos. In the 12th century it served as a hermitage and in the 14th structures were built here. It was one of the most important monasteries of Meteora—having been elevated to the status of patriarchate in 1545.
It was pillaged by the Germans in World War II and resettled in the early 1960's. The nuns maintain traditions of icon painting and music.
